Week 12 - Social networking

Wow, can't believe I am up to my final week of learning and still learning...it has been great and so much web stuff that I didn't know about before Learning 2.0. I knew of Bebo, My Space and Facebook...can see that it could be good for libraries to use social networking services to reach younger clientele...they would use it most...also for customer surveys and suggestions...and links to events, making bookings...now to do the feedback survey...Thanks Learning 2.0!

week 11 - online applications and tools

Week 11...it was great to find out that there is free online software available and documents can be shared online and added to and changes made to them...which would be good at work esp for jobshare positions or just so people can collaborate on publications such as procedures, etc. It is good that files can be easily converted using Zamzar. I used Google docs, uploaded a document and shared it with State Library, very straightforward.

Week 10 - "mashing it up"

Week 10...Voicethreads was interesting, adding insight into photos by being able to hear what people in the photos were saying...could see its use in Libraries in Local Studies...Mashups was fun...could see the use of Mashups in Libraries such as for doing a collage to make a library poster...really enjoyed looking at Big Huge Labs and adding a mashup to my blog, will use it again at home too.

Week 9 - Podcasts and Audio

I enjoyed this week's learning of podcasts, vodcasts...It would be especially good for people who are unable to visit the library, such as the elderly and sick people, home library service members. Our Library could also podcast events such as author visits and promote activities through podcasting such as Book Club so people could see if it interests them before they come.

Week 8 - "Slamming" the Answer Boards

This was fun - I never knew they existed - and good that the answers I looked at from librarians got a good review - I think that by "slamming the boards" it could be good promotion for libraries, good to "show off" some of our research skills with good answers.

Week 7 was Delicious and LibraryThing

Delicious was interesting, I can see that people would find it useful to tag webpages that they find interesting and keep updated with new, related websites. It wuold be useful within a library to share bookmarks with your team to help with research...It would be useful for students to bookmark hsc resources on the web and share with friends. It was a lot of reading in Week 7 and all new to me so I took it slowly...linked Delicious to my blog...
Looked at LibraryThing, linked it to my blog, enjoyed LibraryThing and it improved the look of my blog too.

Week 6 - Embedding a video

Week 6 - Videos online

Week 6 - saw what Youtube and Google Video have to offer, lots of good stuff and not so good stuff, some of the videos filmed in libraries were fun - a good idea for promoting libraries - I think it could be useful as a lighter approach to what services libraries can offer, maybe some good ideas would be filming author visits or special activities held in the library - I am about to embed a video from Youtube into my blog right now...

Week 5 - Wikis

Wikis was of interest to me...wow, I hadn't realised that wikipedia might be able to be edited by anyone or everyone...it would be good in libraries for staff to use to collaborate on ideas for activities and book lists and best practices...community wikis were interesting too...wikis need managing so false or misleading information doesn't stay on the wiki.

Week 4 - (not) real simple syndication

I enjoyed this week's learning, it is amazing that all this is available on the web....that you can subscribe to an rss feed and be kept current on news or have fun reading daily quotes, all sent to your blog. I had difficulty with the adventure activity...adding an rss feed to my blog...I found an rss feed on quotes that I wanted to use but it didn't work, so I chose another with "rss feed" in the url and it worked. I thought it would be fun to read a daily quote...amongst all the learning of 2.0.

Week 3 - Flickr

Week 3 and I have learned to post a photo from Flickr into my blog...again, this is new to me, I hadn't used Flickr before but so many photos that people are sharing over the web...it really is a very social website...I am not sure if I will use Flickr in the future for my own photos but I can see how it can be useful for showing library's photo collections, and tagging photos so they can be searched using keywords is also useful...

What did I think of Week 2 's learning?

I have only just finished week 2...Blogging is new to me...it's exciting to be learning something new...I will know what my fourteen year old daughter is talking about now...I'm all for lifelong learning, it's needed now with all the changes in technology, we need to keep up to date with the changes, especially in a public library, with a lot of our library customers being teenagers and young adults. Blogging is a great idea...being able to share your thoughts and ideas over the Internet with as little or as many people as you want. There was a lot to read via all the links in Week 2 but all useful. I found it easy to follow the steps to create my blog...now to Week 3...
